The Local Government Paralegal Association of Virginia, Inc. (LGPA) is a professional organization dedicated to promoting the continuing education and professional development of paralegals employed by local governments throughout Virginia. LGPA’s membership consists of paralegals/legal assistants from city, county, town, school district, and government offices throughout the Commonwealth, as well as paralegals/legal assistants employed in the private sectors who work in the area of municipal law. LGPA recognizes the unique responsibilities of the paralegal position in a local government office and provides a forum and network through which its members can meet and exchange ideas and share professional experiences.
LGPA’s first annual meeting was held in 1997 in Fairfax. Its members have continued to meet in October of each year in different locations throughout the Commonwealth. Past conferences have been held in Henrico County, Norfolk, Charlottesville, Richmond, Roanoke, Leesburg and Portsmouth. Each program is designed to provide those in attendance with continuing education relevant to the paralegal profession.
In 2006, LGPA and the Virginia Alliance of Paralegal Associations (VAPA) hosted a joint conference in Richmond. The conference was a great success! Attendance at the conference far exceeded our expectations and the majority of those who attended were very pleased with the overall conference program. We are hopeful that LGPA and VAPA will host a joint conference again in the fall of 2008.
LGPA will host its Eleventh Annual conference October 3-5, 2007, at the Holiday Inn Sunspree in Virginia Beach. Check the News page for details.
